Steps to cancel app downloads or updates from the Mac App Store
Step one: While you are downloading the software update, make sure the Updates tab is selected
Step two: Next up, you simply need to press and hold the Option (⌥) key. Once you see the Cancel button to the right of the app or update you are downloading, tap on it (Make sure that you keep the Option (⌥) key pressed)
Step three: From the pop-up menu, all you need to do is to click on blue Cancel Download button to confirm your action.
Alternatively, when you are downloading any app or software update, hit the Purchased tab. Once you are done, you simply need to press and hold the Option key and then click on the Cancel button to stop the download.
Note that: If you see a message saying “Installing”, this means you cannot cancel the download for your app. So make up your mind and do it quickly before it’s too late.
